Osteoarthritis in South Orlando FL
Osteoarthritis in South Orlando FL: What is it and what to do about it
There are several different types of arthritis in South Orlando FL but one of the most common is osteoarthritis (OA). It’s known as degenerative or “wear-and-tear” arthritis. This happens when cartilage deteriorates which causes the smooth surface to roughen. Cartilage may eventually wear away to the point where the bone ends touch and rub. Symptoms can include stiffness, pain, and sometimes swelling in the joint. Don’t feel defeated if you have this condition. There are many lifestyle changes and conservative treatment options that many people are unaware of. Our patients are getting great results with some of the arthritis protocols that we implement.
Exercise in South Orlando FL
Move it or lose it! There is overwhelming evidence that daily physical activity is great for OA. The more time spent being sedentary, the greater the loss of physical function. Exercises geared toward strengthening muscles, and improving coordination, balance, mobility, and proprioception (awareness of the position of one’s body) can reduce pain and improve physical function. Three kinds of exercise are important for people with OA: range of motion/flexibility, endurance/aerobic exercise, and strengthening exercise. All of equally important. Also, meditation, deep breathing, yoga, and tai chi can be very helpful as well.
Supplements
Here is a list of supplements known to help with OA:
- Glucosamine and chondroitin
- Vitamin D
- Vitamin C
- Vitamin B3
- Magnesium
- Omega 3
- Herbs (olive leaf, feverfew, turmeric, boswellia, ginger)

A whole food diet rich in plant foods has been shown to help arthritic symptoms. Whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and legumes are excellent sources of fiber which can help fight inflammation. Look into including bone broth as a dietary staple. Try to decrease excess sugar and processed foods as much as possible. Include more of these foods in your regular diet:
